Ask Lindsi! Q & A! THE CLOG

Photos courtesy of: Style.com

Q. Melissa-New York, NY

"I keep seeing this wooden clog trend for Spring from big designers like Chanel and Louis Vuitton. Is this a total flash in the pan trend and how would I wear it? I don't want to look like I'm back in the 1990's."

A.

Hi Melissa! Thank you for your question! And great question at the least! Clogs are always a trend that many people have trouble even trying on let alone making them part of their outfit! First off, let me start by saying that clogs and I...well...we have a love-hate relationship. Why this is? Because every time I think of them, I have a vague memory of being a 7 year old girl at Trails End Camp, hearing the Olympic song in the middle of the night, throwing on my clogs, and literally rolling down and twisting my ankle on the wet, rainy, grassy hill. Yesss, I knowww! Embarrassing, huh?

To answer your first question Melissa, there is something important to remember about a trend. Trends in many scenarios come back in one form or another. The Dutch shoe was huge in the 70's, 90's, and is now being brought back to life. So, with that, I would say to buy a pair of clogs this season that are either a neutral color or ones without too much embellishment. That way, you can see how much you wear them day to day. If/when they come back another season, you will know whether or not you will want to splurge on a more "special" pair based on how much you wore the older pair.

To answer your second question, there are a couple of cute ways to pair your clogs with your clothes:

1. Cute, short denim shorts with an easy-breezy tee shirt or mens inspired collar shirt.
2. skin tight bandage long skirt (I am thinking of Rick Owen's cotton skirt-amazing!), loose white tee. You still maintain that desire for Bohemian with a hint of sexy.
3. Wide leg jeans with a tight tank
4. Harem pants with a loose tee for a more casual/daytime look

So if your asking if your feet should feel clogged this season..I would say absolutely yes-own it sister! I hope this was helpful to you ! Thank you so much for your question!

Playing Dress-Up for a Great Cause: Silver Lining Society

Makeup by: Marni Danielle Burton @ marni@marniburton.com

The Silver Lining Society was a huge hit on Saturday night! I want to thank everyone who came out to support the amazing cause! I was shooting my interview for New York Pudding at the beginning of the night w/ Co-Founders Ryan Alovis and Stav Vaisman and later with their Director of Communications, Riki Blair Hirsch. I will keep everyone posted on when that video will be up! :)
I always take the opportunity to dress really fun when attending a charity event. Looking your best and feeling your best is always a #1 confidence booster! And what girl doesn't like to play dress-up!? I got tons of compliments and questions on my outfit so I thought I would post what I wore. I am wearing a Jill Stuart skirt, American Apparel leather cropped corset, Matthew Williamson fur jacket and beaded belt, and Sergio Rossi peep toe pumps.

Fashion Show Obsession of the Week! JILL STUART!

Photos courtesy of: style.com

Jill Stuart has ALWAYS been a designer who I could count on! Whether it be for a charity event, a fun night out, or a cocktail party, her collections never fail me when I am in the never ending search to find the perfect outfit. I wore one of her incredible Fall 2009 dresses (to the left) to my birthday party this past year and the compliments on the dress did not stop! SHE IS BRILLIANT!
Her pieces are always classy with a hint of edge and each piece exudes their own individual sex appeal, leaving you feeling confident and beautiful. Oh and did I mention the fit is incredible!? Aside from her own collections, Jill Stuart and her team search for high end/high quality vintage that is some of the best I have seen in the world. Think doily/lace meets vintage Pucci. Definitely A MUST SEE!
Jill Stuart's Spring 2010 Collection left me wanting EVERY single piece-and I am not kidding! The "girl next door meets rebel neighbor" was what made me think of this collection...cool, edgy, feminine, sexy, and seductive all wrapped into one collection. With the sexy dresses, embellished jackets, hot shoes, and "reel the men in" EVERYTHING, this show left me with an overwhelming craving for more Jill!

RIP ALEXANDER MCQUEEN

First Marie Claire Fashion Awards

Alexander McQueen was found dead at his London home this morning. It was confirmed to UK's Daily Mail that the 40 year old British designer committed suicide. And if that's not heart wrenching enough...he took his life just days after the death of his mother and almost 3 years after the suicide of his dear friend Isabella Blow. There is no doubt that Fashion Week is in utter shock and dismay, grieving the loss of one of the most talented British designers. Alexander McQueen was a designer who was a fashion risk taker and a much respected celebrity favorite. Born Lee Alexander Mcqueen, RIP. You will be missed and you will forever be an Icon.

UnBRAlievably Sizzlin'!

I don't know about you guys, but even in this freezing cold weather, the new trend of wearing lingerie beyond the bedroom is making me hot! Obviously, we may not follow the advice of the daring runway shows of Fendi, Phillip Lim, and Alexander Wang (above) and fully flaunt it (because let's be honest here, it would be hard to apply to our everyday lives). BUT there are many ways to show some skin without self-conscious feelings of being in your birthday suit! In this case, I will help using my most favorite piece: THE BRA!

1. Go out and buy something that is sheer to your liking. OR if you are not the sheer type of gal, buy something with coverage that is either low in the front or droopy and low underneath your armpits.

2. Play around with different bras/bandeaux's...colors, textures, and designs. I am a bandeaux fan because I hate straps, but whatever floats your boat can work.

3. Once you find the bra/bandeaux that you love, wear it under your new top/blouse, tank, dress, etc. Allowing the bra to peek out from underneath your clothes is a sultry, yet quietly sexy way to stay in trend. And I know the men won't have a problem with it either ;)!

Keep Up to Pace with Lace.

Photos courtesy of: Style.com

I AM LACE OBSESSED! Anyone close to me knows that as edgy as I am, I am equally girly and mixing the two are my favorite things to do. That is why I am so excited about this Spring/Summer's collections because there are so many types of looks to experiment with! So...with that, lace should be one of them! Givenchy, Phillip Lim, Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi and Chloé, as seen above, have all displayed the whimsical look on their runways. Givenchy and Dolce, with the black edgy sandal gives the lace a rocker edge, which I love because it tones down the girliness and gives the lace a great balance...and its always about the fashion balance in my eyes. Chloé femme's it out with an ivory lace ballet slipper. Either way you wear it, make it personal, unique, and own it sister! So for all the hopeless romantics out there, this look is sure to make you fall in love.

Punchy Prints for Spring!

Photos courtesy of: style.com

Any fashion-mind-craving gal who has been keeping up to date with their "bibles" could tell you that prints are in for Spring! Whether it be on shirts, dresses, or even shoes, this trend deserves some immediate attention! What is so great about the print trend (and I personally love it in any skin tight or flowy dress) is that since it should be the main focal point of your outfit, everything else should be kept muted...your makeup, your shoes, and even your hair. With that, you don't even have to worry about finding the perfect matching bag. You can just let the print speak for itself! Versace, Blumarine, and Matthew Williamson, as seen above, totally rocked out with prints in their Spring/Summer 2010 collections! Lindsi Tip: If you are not the daring type or too much color is not your thing, take it a step at a time by buying little bold pieces here and there. Whether it be a scarf, a tank, or a bag, the print trend should be a staple in your closet this season! Happy Shopping!

The Grammy's were nothing less than AMAZING last night! Lady Gaga's outstanding opening performance with Elton John, left me in the exact same state as the song they sang-Speechless. Obviously her costume was only but another work of art to add to her eclectic collection. Boy, would I love to see that girls closet! ;) As for the rest of the performances, PINK's actually made me cry (yes, I just admited that)! Aside from feeling the passion behind the song that she sang, she was beautifully adorned with crystals, dripping in water, and flying through the air. She just looked like a glistening angel. The Michael Jackson tribute, which paid homage to the King of Pop with a 3D movie, was such an amazing way to keep his spirit alive in the music industry forever.
Now...onto my most favorite picks from the Grammy Awards 2010!! Rihanna, in Elie Saab Haute Couture, added a little bit of feminine elegance to her always edgy look. I couldn't take my eyes off this dress and she totally made it come to life! Beyonce looked absolutely STUNNING in a linked crystal Giorgio Armani Privé number dripping with crystal chains that she wore as she made her acceptance speech. She went home with 6 Grammy's last night and looked damn good doin' it! Her Atelier Versace black leather dress that she wore to perform in...I mean, need I say more!? Taylor Swift, being the other big winner of the night besides Beyonce, wore a beautiful Kaufman Franco gown that made her look like she was draped in a sheet of ocean colored crystals. She looked beyond beautiful. Heidi Klum dazzled in a Pucci mini that made her legs go on till next Tuesday. I love that she left her makeup very neutral and let the dress do all the talking. Keri Hilson, who was a nominee for best new artist, wore a stunning pale pink Dolce and Gabbana. All around, the Grammys left me shocked, excited, and obviously wanting to shop! ;)
